Editing The Lip Dub

On Friday, I was able to go to CTV and watched and helped Alex (the cameraman) and Nick (the editor) to edit my lip dub. They used a program called Final Cut Pro which is like a high tech, flash version of iMovie. First, we changed around the colours because it was a bit dark in some places. We also added the school logo to the beginning and end of the lip dub with a cross dissolve into and out of the clip. Near the end, I was able to add in the words that I had planned out. It was a great experience. I saw some awesome things including two computers that are essentially like two desktops except they are both open and on different computers! So cool!

Outside CTV
I learnt that any frames with effects, sound, text or similar must be rendered. There are about 25 frames to a second. In one of the Lord of the Rings movies, it took 24 hours to render one frame. After we had finished and I was waiting for Dad to pick me up, Nick showed me around the studio. I saw their makeshift recording studio. After the earthquakes, CTV lost their building. Their makeshift studio is too small for more than one set. In between two of the shows, there is just a five minute break for them to switch the sets. Nick said it is like chaos but as soon as they are on air, it is calm like nothing happened. :)
Beginning the editing

During this week I also had another mentor meeting with Señora Ryan. She seemed really excited and we had a look at my essay. I also wrote the 3rd paragraph, Planning, for my essay.

On September 2nd, they will be showing my lip dub on CTV and I have been asked to come in and have an interview about the process. I am really excited.

Another Lip Dub

On the 15 of June, Señora Ryan e-mailed me another lip dub. This was her old High School:

The part of this lip dub that I noticed was the great energy that the people in the background had. They were very enthusiastic, the kind of thing that I would like in my lip dub.

Earlier on in the term, I had another Mentor Meeting, I showed my plan, mock-up and proposal and also where I was up to with getting rights for the song.

I also didn't get a reply when I e-mailed the person who created the StAC lip dub so I got my Mum to give the me the contact for the Media teacher at StAC and I hope to contact him soon.

Apra|Amcos - Music Rights

Today, I found out that I have a meeting with our principal to propose the lip dub on Monday! Mum and me are finalising the route and drawing a storyboard in the weekend. This is very exciting and it's really cool to see all of it coming together. I need to put together a good proposal with all the costs and how it will look so that I have a better chance of getting funding. I have started a presentation demonstrating the mock up, the costs and the storyboard.

I also had a mentor meeting today with Señora Ryan. I showed her my mock up, explaining that it would be slightly different in the real thing. She said that after the final scene, it would be quite good to have the school logo come up and fly in.

Another exciting progression is that I have found out how to acquire the rights for Life in Sunshine in three easy steps.
Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

I have sent an email to Apra|Amcos asking about how to acquire rights for a song. I hope to get a message back soon.

My First Mentor Meeting

On Tuesday, I had my first mentor meeting with Señora Ryan. I told her what my personal project was about and then how my progress had gone so far. She thought that I was on the right track and didn't need much help from her for the time being. Her advice to me was that I had a mock up of what the lip dub might look like when I propose to get funding by just using a handheld camera and maybe getting one of my peers to walk around with me so that our principal can have a good idea about what it might look like. Then I will most likely have a better chance of getting funding.

While I'm here, here's another clip to get you thinking. What parts of the school do you think I should showcase? I think, definitely the music room, all of our specialists and the IB Programme.

Happy

Hey!

Today I found out who my mentor is - our Spanish teacher! I've sent her an e-mail asking what mentor meeting times would work best for her (She hasn't given me permission to use her name yet so I'll update this when she does).

I've also been looking at a whole lot more lip dubs. While searching, the song "Happy" by Pharrel Williams came up on the side bar part where there are links to related videos. I had a look and thought "Hey. This is lot like what I'm doing." Our art teacher showed the Happy website to us and I thought that it was really cool. It is a lip dub to "Happy" at different times of the day with different people. Here is a compilation of all of the people in one video.

I thought that this was a really good lip dub because of its great, catchy song and the fact that each person who fronts it is really into the song. I also thought that the website was pretty cool too.

Click here to go to the "24 hours of Happy" website where you can see all the different at different times of the day.

My next step will be to start working out how much the equipment is going to cost. To do this I am going to have to look up some companies that will hire me out the steadicam and the other equipment I need. Then I am going to have to ring them up and get a quote so I can go to our principal with a proposal that includes all the information I need.
